Two lives.
One night.
Zero answers.
In the early hours of Sunday, September 29, 2019, Antonio Williams was waiting in Bronx, NY for a ride home after viewing a boxing match with friends.
He did not make it home.
That night, plainclothes NYPD officers were in the area as part of a unit tasked with helping to rid the neighborhood of guns. In pursuit of this goal, the officers wore plain clothes and rode in an unmarked vehicle.
This unmarked vehicle approached Antonio and the officers emerged.
Antonio did not know these men.
Antonio legally ran away from the men approaching him on the dark street.
Antonio died that night.
New York Police Department officers shot and killed Antonio Williams.
They also managed to kill one of their fellow officers, Brian Mulkeen, in the process.
Initial news reports blamed Mulkeen’s death on Antonio.
That is false.
Antonio will never know who those officers were or what they wanted. NYPD still owes his family these answers.
What we do know is Antonio was not being sought or detained. Antonio never fired a weapon. Antonio tried to run.
There is so much more that we do not know.
We need your help getting these answers and we’re prepared to hear them, whatever they may be.
In the meantime, what we have are these memories we want to share with you.
Antonio was more than the death he died that night or the headlines with his name.
He was a father, partner, son, and brother. We love him and miss him every day.
